Language packs enable SharePoint users to switch the language of the SharePoint user interface. In SharePoint 2013 this still works in the same manner as in SharePoint Server 2010 from an end user perspective (See Multilingual User Interface (MUI) in SharePoint 2010 – Part I). An important change with regards to for example SharePoint Server 2007 is that you only need the appropriate language pack for SharePoint Server and not first the one for SharePoint Services/SharePoint Foundation.
Unfortunately language packs for SharePoint Server 2013 are only available for download from MSDN
- Running SharePoint Foundation 2013 – download and install Language Packs for SharePoint Foundation 2013
- Running Office Web Apps (this is a separate server in 2013) – download and install Language Packs for Microsoft Office Web Apps Server
- Running SharePoint Server 2013 – go to your MSDN subscription downloads and search for “Office Server 2013 Language Pack” – there seem to be about 33 languages available for the moment.
